It’s Right to Rebel against Israel
It’s Right to Rebel against Israel

Israel is a country with a long history of aggression, founded on the basis of settlerism and the displacement of native Palestinians. To a large extent, Israel has functioned as an outpost for imperialist aggression, and it has repeatedly demonstrated that its war against the Palestinians in the Gaza strip is a war of elimination. Even though 61% of those living in the Gaza strip lack sufficient food, unarmed Gaza fishermen continue to come under attack from Israeli soldiers. (1) (2) There are fuel, power, and electrical shortages throughout the area, medical care is insufficient to meet the people’s needs, and 80% of the people do not have access to clean water. (3) At the same, Israel continues to build walls around the Palestinians, limiting both their freedom of movement and their access to land and resources. In this way, Israel seeks to starve and exhaust Palestinians until they are so tired that they will begin to accept their own genocide. In spite of this, many Palestinians continue to fight courageously against the occupation government.
To some extent, the situation in the West Bank is different than the situation in the Gaza Strip, where Israeli control is much stronger. Encroaching Israeli settlements and infrastructure already take up 40% of the land, and Israel is in control of most of the remaining land in the area (4). The West Bank is currently divided into three parts, part of which is under Palestinian control, part of which is under indirect Israeli control, and the other part of which is under direct Israeli control. While Israel’s supporters will often blame the poor standard of living in the Gaza Strip on those fighting for their self determination and survival, reality shows that that Israeli rule does nothing to improve the quality of life of those living in occupied territories. In fact, in the the area under direct Israeli control, known as Area C, is not only the worst area of the West Bank for Palestinians to live in, but the worst area in all of Palestine for them to live in. The problems in the West Bank are comparable to those faced in the Gaza Strip, but to a more pronounced degree. According to a recent report, 80% of the communities surveyed in Area C do not have sufficient food. Many children have been found to have stunted growth, and 10% of them are underweight. This is all compounded by the fact that Israel is making it difficult for Palestinians to develop their own infrastructure. (5) This is a common situation, in that imperialism has forced its communities in a state of artificial backwardness. Where imperialism’s influence is stronger, so too is the state of backwardness.
Israel has more freedom in designing what it calls the West Bank “separation fence,” the Apartheid Wall’s West Bank branch. This giant wall of concrete reaches a height of nine meters in some areas, about 29 and a half feet, and is monitored by the Israeli military. (5) It continues to encompass an ever decreasing amount of land, cutting off Palestinian communities’ access to water and farmland. There many communities that are already surrounded on three or four sides by the wall. One such community, Qalqilyah, is almost entirely surrounded by the wall. (6) Israel has been building the wall in such a way so that the land that the farmland being used by Palestinians in Qalqilyah is to the east of the wall, while the Palestinians themselves are placed to the west of it. (7) Israeli rule shows flagrant disregard for the welfare of Palestinians, instead aiming to displace and kill them to make room for its own settlements.
By resisting Israel’s imperialistic advances, Palestinians set an example for how the world’s oppressed people continue to resist. Israel and its allies blame the victim, they claim that those who defend themselves are at fault. The truth is that Palestinians in particular and the world’s people generally can only move forward though people’s war against imperialism. However, if people do not go far enough in resisting imperialism, any gains made will only be temporary. Imperialism itself is a manifestation of capitalism, a system by which a minority benefits from the exploitation of the majority. As long as this system is allowed to continue, the imperialists will have all the resources at their disposal that they need for enforcing their rule. In order to change this, the best tool available today is Leading Light Communism, which seeks to bring together the world’s people in a united front against imperialism. In contrast to those who call on the oppressed to lay down their arms, Leading Lights say “It’s right to rebel!”
